“Reasonable Discipline”: “Family violence shall not be deemed to include reasonable discipline administered by a parent to a child in the form of corporal punishment, restraint, or detention.” O.C.G.A. § 19-13-1 (last sentence). A stinging slap to a disrespectful child, with no resulting bruises, has been held to not constitute “family violence”. Buchheit v. Stinson 260 Ga. App. 450, 455 – 456 (2003). Lack of visible harm does not prevent such a finding; and physical discipline might in some cases constitute “family violence”. Id.
